2018 Guinness World Record Attempt and Zumba Wellness Affair

On February 1, 2018 Mayor Joines, Red H.E.A.R.R.T., students from the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and the community went for a 3rd attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Record for the “Largest Cardiovascular Health Awareness session”.   Partnering schools consist of Kimmel Farm Elementary, Cook Literacy Model School, Clemmons Middle School, Southeast Middle School, East Forsyth Middle School, Carver High School, Walkertown High School, John F. Kennedy High School. 251 participants were needed the complete session to set a new Guinness Book of World Records for the World’s Largest Cardiovascular Health Awareness session.

Later that day, the annual Zumba Wellness Affair Event took place at the Hanes Hosiery Recreation Center.  The even featured Over 20 plus informational booths sharing heart health information, warm-up Zumba and boot camp and finally the official kick-off of the zumbathon.

There was a Zumba flash mobs designed to depict how easy it is to “get moving” and have fun while doing it. The flash mobs, which were coordinated by Tracie Poerazaff, Zumba Instructor and Red HEARRT zumbathon coordinator had more than 12 instructors.

Also during the event, participants will had the opportunity to get heart health information, play healthy quiz games, and learn their body mass index and blood pressure. In addition, they learned about heart healthy alternative selections, got heart healthy & tasty recipes, received hand massages, heard optional get moving techniques, beauty tips and more.
